The Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is an indoor midget car racing event. The inaugural Chili Bowl was organized by Lanny Edwards and partner Emmett Hahn  It was named after a local company who sponsored the first event. The inaugural event consisted of 52 midgets competing in the 2-day event. The Top 4 finishers in the qualifying night's feature event plus the top 4 finishers the two Saturday night B-main events progress into the 24 car feature field. The cable channel Speed Channel has televised the event in the United States. It accommodates hundreds of race cars, bleachers for 15, fans,  and a trade show, all under one roof.

After Bowman earned a top finish during his preliminary night, Leary upped the ante by challenging for a lock-in spot throughout the lap feature on John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night. Leary came at second-running Shane Golobic with a big slide job inside of the final two laps, actually edging Golobic out by a bumper at the white flag as he looked to secure a spot in the pole shuffle. However, Golobic was able to cross back underneath Leary and retake second on the final lap, with the No. After last year saw Leary roll from the D main to the B main before mechanical woes eliminated him from contention, the Indiana driver is confident that this year, he can race his way into the big show. Although they are expected to dominate, there are other fast drivers who are threats for victory on the team, including former Gander Outdoors Truck Series driver Rico Abreu and dirt-racing ace Logan Seavey, both of whom won their respective qualifying nights earlier in the week to make the big show, as well.
